What is BSL?

BSL: "Breed Specific Legislation"; laws passed to restrict ownership of a particular breed. It could prohibit the ownership all together (like here in cincinnati), or require certain treatment such as muzzles, micro-chips, expensive insurance policies etc.

In general, much of the public believes that dangerous dogs must be of a certain breed, such as larger guardian breeds, or smaller terrier breeds. Most of these ideas come from the media, including TV, newspapers, blogs, videos online etc. Other breeds commonly placed under BSL are German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Husky type dogs, Doberman Pinschers, Wolf-Dog Hybrids and Alaskan Malamutes.
